Mistborn: The Final Empire

Mistborn isn’t your typical good vs evil fantasy novel. For starters, the “good” guys are thieves planning a heist and the villain is a God/ruler who saved the world from great evil. However, the said ruler has also headed an oppressive regime for the last one thousand years, so overthrowing him may not be such a bad idea. Mix in the unique concept of Allomancy (gives magical abilities to one who can “burn” ingested metals), a gifted but mistrusting heroine and some equally endearing but flawed characters and you’ve got a book that is sooo hard to put down. Yes, I thouroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t keep myself from starting on the next book right away. Whether you’re a veteran in the fantasy genre, or just starting to explore it, this book is a great addition to your reading list.
Mistborn Trilogy

For my first 3 books of 2012, I’ve finished reading Brian Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy. I was introduced to Sanderson when he was commissioned to complete the Wheel of Time series, and I found his writing refreshingly fast-paced and funny (if you’ve made it that far to reading Wheel of Time, you’ll know what I mean). So I searched for his other works and found the Mistborn books. My dear husband got me the boxed set
Would I recommend the series? You bet, and it was a very satisfying read for only 3 books. The trilogy didn’t keep Sanderson from creating a very rich world, with unique magical systems and exciting twists to fantasy novel cliches. I’ll be reviewing each book in my next posts.
